Traditionally, the end of Q3, moving into Q4 is a very busy time in the market and as we come to the end of September the clear indications from the network is this quarter will be the case again.
There is strong activity in financial services, fintech, FMCG, international development and social impact roles.
The broader technology sector looks to be a highly active market but there are both strong and less strong elements with that picture.
There are a variety of reasons being expressed; some are suggesting that geo-political uncertainty is the main driver, in particular the run up to the US election, although this wouldn’t account for why tech is an exception compared to other sectors.
Another theory is that the potential but as yet unclear impact of AI/ML is causing a degree of ‘analysis paralysis’; as businesses are reluctant to commit to growth or transformation plans which may be superseded by AI empowered internal methodologies and similar changes in customer demand in the near future.
Regardless of the underlying reason, the result is a continuing trend in some instances towards risk aversion and inefficient decision making from employers along with a preference for internal promotions.
Outside of technology, demand for the finance skillset (CFOs) remains high, particularly in spaces such as logistics and energy.
Levels of activity are also positive across the major business regions, the Americas, Europe especially the UK, the Middle East and South East Asia. Although in Asia there remains a focus on employing nationals.
Many private equity focused search consultants are reporting an uptick in activity now the summer break is out of the way.
In the UK the potential announcements in the forthcoming budget mean there is currently increasing activity around the investment, tax and pensions sector.
On the global market financial services, professional services, consultancy particularly in transformation, sustainability and energy continue to be strong markets for experience senior executive opportunities.
